Renewable and non-renewable energy sources

The energy that we use can have renewable or non-renewable origins. The Renewable indicator shows the percentage of consumed energy from renewable sources. While the detailed graph give a more exhaustive view on the sources of the consumed energy. The different labels are:

• Ambient heat → The ambient heat is taken from the ambient (air, lakes, river or ground) by heat pumps and used for space heating and sanitary hot water.
• Elec. Photovoltaic → Electricity produced by photovoltaic panels.
• Elec. Wind → Electricity produced by wind turbines.
• Elec. Hydro → Electricity produced by run-of-river and storage hydro power plants.
• Geothermal → Electricity and heat produced by geothermal power plants and geothermal cogeneration systems.
• Biomass → It includes solid biomass (wood), biofuels (ethanol and biodiesel) and biogas.
• Solar thermal → Heat produced by solar thermal panels.

• Nuclear → Heat produced in the nuclear reactors, that is converted into electricity and waste heat from power generation.
• Elec. Import → Imported electricity from our neighbouring countries.
• Natural gas → Natural gas for heat and/or electricity generation and for the transport sector.
• Heating oil → Fuel oil for boilers and diesel for cogeneration engines.
• Transport oil → Gasoline and diesel for the transport sector.
• Other fossil → Coal and 50% of the incinerated waste.
